Position Requisition #109 – Post Doc – Polymer Thin Films
Chemical Engineering

NanOasis is an early-stage, venture-backed start-up company in the SF Bay Area developing break-through polymer thin-film nanocomposite membrane technology for a host of purification applications. These membranes offer increased productivity, robustness and high selectivity to analytes of interest, enabling novel applications in the environmental, medical, and clean-energy fields.

Recently NanOasis won one of the inaugural DOE ARPA-E awards. Only 37 companies were granted awards from among almost 4,000 applicants. Using this award NanOasis is developing revolutionary membranes that will greatly reduce the energy intensity of desalination, water reuse and water treatment.

NanOasis is seeking a PhD/MS level Chemical Engineering candidate to join our team. The candidate will perform R&D on polymer thin film nanocomposite materials and devices, with a particular emphasis on polymer deposition and formulation. The candidate must be able to work on numerous projects simultaneously, both in a supporting role and also as a project lead.

Responsibilities will include:
• Help plan and execute R&D centered on the production of nanocomposite liquid filtration membranes
• Communicate effectively with other R&D scientists and engineers to support development projects
• Take responsibility for various materials characterization instruments (SEM, TGA, Pore analysis, filtration apparatus)

Candidate will work collaboratively with the technical team and should expect regular supervision.

Requirements:
• Extensive polymer thin film experience, especially polymer deposition methods, such as dip coating, casting, or vapor deposition.
• Experience with membrane/polymer characterization tools including surface area/pore analysis, SEM, TGA, and/or cross-flow and stirred cell filtration apparatus
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to complete tasks on time
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• PhD in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, or related field, including at least 4 years laboratory experience, with an emphasis on polymer thin film deposition and characterization.

More generally, we are looking for candidates who want to join a dynamic team and work on a technology that promises to have a significant, positive impact on our environment. Successful candidates will carry a curiosity, self-drive, and independence in the lab to execute well thought out experiments to address specific scientific questions and challenges facing this technology.

Candidate must have the right to work in the US. Interested candidates are encouraged to email a brief summary of their research experience, lab skills, and resume/CV to Position109@NanOasisInc.com.

In the email subject line please cite the Position Requisition: # 109.
